Reading and Writing Electronic Texts - Week 11
Assignment 04: For this week I did an experiment thinking forward on the final project - An Hebrew-Arabic mutually intelligble childerns book.. I reworked the last assignment where I filtered the 3 letter roots from Ecclesiastes in order to later filter those which are mutually intelligible in Arabic. What was added this week is filtering the output of the last assignment via the tags from the corpus we created in class to get roots that are more accessible for little childre

Reading and Writing Electronic Texts - Week 08
Assignment 03: After getting a bit lot with the second assignment and being humbled by trying to write code from scratch with no LMMs, I decided make something simple mostly based on the references from class and dedicate more time to figuring out what kind of text generating I want to achieve. I had two ideas in mind for the assignment. The first one: taking a text in biblical Hebrew, Ecclesiastes and filtering root letters. Semitic languages are based on a (mostly) 3 letter

Reading and Writing Electronic Texts - Week 06
Assignment 02: For this assignment I chose to study the old English meter. It was based mostly on the book Old English Metre an Introduction by Jun Teraswa. I thought it would be interesting to explore how the alliteration, rhythm and stress of this genre famous for epic poems could be manifested when using a different source to produce the strings. I used a text file of a book from the Guthenberg Project called The Book of Household Management by Mrs. Beeton, A Victorian boo

Intro to Fabrication - Week 05-06
Combining two materials: For this assignment I combined plywood and thicker hard wood. it is a ramp for my disabled cat to climb the bad. I didn't get everything that I planned done. I still need to add rug so she can hold it with her nails to climb and make a weight enclosure at the bottom to hold it steal. While it is not truly complete i feel it's my best project, it took me some time to get it right and I learned a lot in the process and felt like I am able to apply the t

Intro to Fabrication - Week 03
Big object and small object: I made two toy ukuleles. one out of plywood and one out of cardboard. Originally I planned to do so on the laser cutter and had the file ready on illustrator, but couldn't for logistic reasons and ended up measuring and cutting both manually. For the wood I used the bandsaw and wood glue. I measured the shape and then cut it in the bandsaw, copying with a pencil the main face of the ukulele which includes the "neck". I got to cut this tiny uke on

Intro to Fabrication - Week 04
Making an enclosure: For this assignment I made a small arcade controller using acrylic, the laser cutter, the joining method (with extra help of glue) in order to create the enclosure for the Arduino cable and the two arcade buttons. while the buttons and the cable got perfect results, I can still improve the joining method in future works, but I gut familiar with the power of the laser cutter which was very fun and helpful. I started by designing a sketch of the controller

Intro to Fabrication - Week 02
Making five identical objects: This time in the shop I felt much more comfortable with the miter saw and the bandsaw, as a part of my toy theme I made a simple wooden toy airplane, and then tried to make more identical versions of it. cannot say I succeed but I tried. I used a thick block of wood following a shape I drew on it, saving the curves for the sanding machine. After I got the right shape I sliced the block into 2 parts and then copied it to a different block outlin

The New Arcade - Week 04 - 05
Alt Ctrl Midterm The project is a game where the real life player is the pied piper of Hamelin and they need to lead a rat out of town to get paid. The alt ctrl is a flute the plays in to a microphone sensor that detects the amplitude and duration (possibly?) of sound. this will be constructed in the last week. For the class demo I have 3 kinds of jump, each one in a different height. Jump is the only input the player has, as the player moves forward automatically. First thin

Reality Threshold - Week 04
1. Educational Theme: Language Learning This idea aims to convey the transition from chaos to clarity. It mirrors the experience of learning a language where sounds that initially feel like a cacophony gradually gain order and meaning. This concept can be expressed through spatial organization, scribbled textures evolving into figurative representations, dissipating fog, or the interplay between darkness and light. To move through the space, the user might need to organize wo

Reading and Writing Electronic Texts - Week 03
Assignment 01: For this assignment I have altered some lines of the Love letter generator (original by Christopher Strachey). I was drawn to the way in which it amplifies affection desire and emotion. When looking at the code structured from lists where words are being chosen randomly. The list made me think of the things that I list myself - which is boringly groceries list. thinking about groceries and desire made me contemplate on Karls Marx's observation regarding the ali

Alt Ctrl 3 games: Back Off Me Booty This is a game were you control a pirate ship and your goal is to defend you ship from others trying to loot you. You have to inputs to control your ship, one is a button input that fires a cannon from the edge of the ship, and the other one is a titter-totter which players are seated on, using their weight to rotate the ship on it's side, thus aiming the cannon at the enemy. how to pet your cat In this game you earn points by petting your

box: I mainly tried to overcome my fear from losing my fingers I tried creating a simple box like in the demo. I marked the places for the cut and the hole in advance and use a broken piece of wood to expirement with the size of the drill. All in all it went fine except for being crooked and breaking on the edge, and having an unsanded interior. Measuring the cut Looking for the right drill Placing the hole The inner part and the broken piece A small cylinder wood I sanded to

The New Arcade - Week 01
Golden age arcade review of 3 games: Pacman The layout of Pacman is based on somewhat of a bird's eye view camera. The stage is build like a maze that acts as a collider, in which the player has to navigate while escaping enemies that are targeting them, in order to collect the maximum amount of point and clear the stage from white dots that are spread throughout the corridors. after clearing the dots the player complete the level. when collecting fruits the player gain an ab

Dynamic Web Development - Week 7 Presentation
My goal for this course was being able to create a simple web app that enables users to have a gamified language learning experience. Coming from 3D game industry background and as a language enthusiast I'm seeking for ways to make language learning a fun and immersive experience rather then a tedious pedagogic one (such as most of those being used in schools, universities and apps like DuoLingo). I am inspired by researcher James Paul Gee who argues that language learning th

Hypercinema Week 10 - 14 Cornell box
Project in pairs with Guy Mizrachi When we started brainstorming we had a few rough ideas in mind: A box filled with postcards from different times of a persons life that convey its memories.Or depicting an historical timeline passing by. this would happen through deconstructing/unfolding the postcards. A puppet show that take place inside a wooden box A letter envelope as a box with different stamps the user can interact with and change their animation. An istallation of car

Pcomp - Weeks 10 - 14 Final Project
I started working on an idea that I've had for a while now - creating an experimental musical instrument - a deconstructed version of the arabic Oud (though inspired also by Sitar and saz). While western music mostly uses tones and half tones, instrument like the Oud are used to produce quarter tones as well. When playing the Oud the left hand usually slide on the fretless neck to produce this sounds hence is responsible for the "analog" aspect of moving through a range of mi

Hypercinema Week 07 - AI midterm project WIP
This week I was working mostly on the style frame of the second world - and on the scenes that stems from this style frame. I have noticed that in my personal experience in this project the style framing is the most challenging and important stage - unlike a the traditional pipelines I am used to, the fact that the AI can generate such complex frames and enables one to test different visual options so quickly, makes the entire workflow becomes more fluid, and the storyboard i

Pcomp - Weeks 5-8 Halloween Midterm Project
Group project by Matt Blanco, Jean Jules Irakoze and Michael Nadav. In the initial stage we were brainstorming some ideas we've had for a halloween themed project, these are a few of the thoughts we've had in mind: A Jack in the box - something with a jump scare effect, perhaps with a sound played through an SD card connected to the arduino, maybe LEDs lighting up from some take on a jack O' lantern and other clichés. We had an idea that the scary thing in the box could be pu

Hypercinema Week 06 - AI midterm project WIP
Explanation of the old project I had in mind: For the midterm project, I decided to revisit an old abandoned short animation project of mine that I’ve been wanting to execute for a long time but couldn’t due to a lack of resources (especially 3D animators and riggers). To overcome these obstacles, I decided to keep the project very simple and experimental — using Maya viewport renders to optimize render speed at the expense of detailed graphics and lighting — and then adding w
