Combining two materials:

For this assignment I combined plywood and thicker hard wood. it is a ramp for my disabled cat to climb the bad. I didn't get everything that I planned done. I still need to add rug so she can hold it with her nails to climb and make a weight enclosure at the bottom to hold it steal.

While it is not truly complete i feel it's my best project, it took me some time to get it right and I learned a lot in the process and felt like I am able to apply the things I've learned in previous lessons and improve my skills.

The initial sketch was this:

In the sides of the ramp there are two parts that should support her body, the edges are circled to prevent her from getting hit.

I designed it narrow because she is wobbly and wanted her to feel supported when she climbs.

Two main challenges were slicing the diagonal in the square that consists the two sides straight, and straitening the edges of the bridge in between so it fits to the shape of the triangle.

I did the diagonal by faking a small straight line before in the part which i didn't plan to cut and used it as a guide pressing it against the flat metal support of the bandsaw,

After brainstorming with the shop workers I used the large vertical sander to create the diagonal angle on the bridge itself:

so it fits the triangle side:

then I measured the bridge side on the triangles to find the place to drill the holes for the wood screws.

I drilled a hole in the size of the screw and then a smaller guide. then conected everything

it is slightly crooked and has a crack at the bottom but all in all I was very proud.
