Intro to Fabrication - Week 05-06
Combining two materials: For this assignment I combined plywood and thicker hard wood. it is a ramp for my disabled cat to climb the bad. I didn't get everything that I planned done. I still need to add rug so she can hold it with her nails to climb and make a weight enclosure at the bottom to hold it steal. Intro to Fabrication - Week 03
Big object and small object: I made two toy ukuleles. one out of plywood and one out of cardboard. Originally I planned to do so on the laser cutter and had the file ready on illustrator, but couldn't for logistic reasons and ended up measuring and cutting both manually. For the wood I used the bandsaw and wood glue. I measured the shape and then cut it in the bandsaw, copying with a pencil the main face of the ukulele which includes the "neck". Making an enclosure: For this assignment I made a small arcade controller using acrylic, the laser cutter, the joining method (with extra help of glue) in order to create the enclosure for the Arduino cable and the two arcade buttons. while the buttons and the cable got perfect results, I can still improve the joining method in future works, but I gut familiar with the power of the laser cutter which was very fun and helpful. Making five identical objects: This time in the shop I felt much more comfortable with the miter saw and the bandsaw, as a part of my toy theme I made a simple wooden toy airplane, and then tried to make more identical versions of it. cannot say I succeed but I tried. I used a thick block of wood following a shape I drew on it, saving the curves for the sanding machine. box: I mainly tried to overcome my fear from losing my fingers I tried creating a simple box like in the demo. I marked the places for the cut and the hole in advance and use a broken piece of wood to expirement with the size of the drill. All in all it went fine except for being crooked and breaking on the edge, and having an unsanded interior.
