Hypercinema Week 03 - 04 Stop motion

Group Assignment with: Jackie Nam and Nava Daniel

For this assignment we started with deciding what material we should use. I thought it could be interesting to create a loop in mosaic the deals with modern technology or topics, but we were worried that the task of assembling the mosaic each time to create an image would be tedious. Finally we decided to use cellophane. Nava noted that it would be interesting to explore the movments of the reflections on the cellophane with a color lamp.

As for the story - we decided to portray a process of a heart beating and then crumpling due to anxiety taking over, manifested by the change of lighting emitted by the lamp.

We then sketched a short storyboard that convey the transformation the shape of the hart from full to crumpled - to a line the becomes a knot.

We later change the knot to to rings pulling one another. the goal was creating an atmosphere of a music video.

When working on the stop motion itself we spent a lot of time setting the lighting and realized later on that some of the focus on the actual transformation of the shape was overlooked. We chose to deal with the issue during the editing process, toggeling between some frames to create a crispy effect to the animation.
